DOS path command error

I try to add a new path using path dos command, but the path can’t be added.
I first open a new cmd window, and type path, get
PATH=C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\system32\WBEM
then I add a new path in the paht command
