I was using Aperture on my new iMac. It has a 450 gb drive.. about 350 of that was full when all of a sudden.. aperture just started crashing. It would take forever to startup, hang, crash.
I’ve been reading up on recovery options.. rebuilding the library. I tried that, it gets 3/4 of the way through and hangs.. no progress after 6 hours waiting. had to force quit the process.
I chose to start shooting on raw at some point.. maybe it was having trouble with those files? Either way, I would like to save my existing photos and reinstall the app. I found the aperture library where it has each project in a single project file.. some are like 20 gb. I was wondering if I just move the contents of that folder out.. uninstall and import them back in later.. will that work?
hi all ive just recently gone full time freelance and im looking for some software to manage invoicing and billing etc. ive got a mac and ive been looking at macfreelance, studiometry, billings and ibiz are there any better ones out there? which one would you recommend?
A friend of mine lives with her brother who is mentally ill. Yesterday she came home to find that he had put a bunch of electrical devices in a bathtub full of water…including her computer and monitor. She said they were completely submerged and other things were piled on the monitor holding it down.
Is there anything she can do to save them?
I am tempted to go into an anti-Microsoft rant here, but I won’t.
I am looking for some good and (hopefully) free television tuning and recording software. My parents just got a new Dell XPS computer loaded with Windows Vista 64-bit operating system. We tried setting up the Windows Media Center to tune TV stations, but it refused to continue until we had an active internet connection.
Once we got the computer on the internet, we downloaded all the Microsoft patches (took an hour to download and install all of them) then tried to set up Media Center to tune television with the installed tv tuner.
Prior to setting up an internet connection, pushing the “Windows” button on the remote control would bring up Media Center. After installing all the patches through auto update, pushing the “Windows” button on the remote possibly crashes the computer.
Every time the “Windows” button was pushed, the Dell monitor went into sleep mode and would not come out. Nothing we pushed on the keyboard or mouse got the monitor out of sleep mode. Turning it off and on didn’t get it out of sleep mode. I am not sure if the computer went into sleep mode or not, but the fan did not shut off. Since the fan didn’t shut off, I assume the computer was not in sleep mode but the monitor was.
After several failed tries pushing the “Windows” button on the remote, we tried opening Windows Media Center and setting it up that way. We were able to set some things, but when I finished the settings on one thing (don’t remember which) and moved the mouse over the “save” button, the computer sort of crashed. The fan speed increased greatly. The fan is almost inaudible, but got very loud for a few seconds. Then the monitor went into sleep mode again and would not come out.
I have to suspect that the Microsoft update is what screwed things up since pushing the “Windows” button on the remote didn’t cause anything to go into sleep mode until after the updates were installed. The only software that was installed other than the patches was Firefox and a DSL modem was plugged into the Ethernet port. Other than that, no changes were made.
I hate everything Microsoft makes. I rarely use Microsoft software other than the OS because it is so crappy. So, I am hoping some of you fine people out there know of a free TV tuner and recording software so my tech-illiterate parents can record shows on their computer.
Thank you very much for any assistance you provide.
When I start up my computer, there is a dialogue screen giving me a list of the drivers being loaded, along with a message saying “BIOS is required to unleash the full potential of my CPU.” I thought I went through all my BIOS to finish up all the loading for the CPU. Is there something missing? Or is that for the overclock speeds?
Also, on the same screen, a message comes up immediately saying, “CPU Over temperature Error.” I installed the fan correctly, and the thermal paste spread as well. I had the computer on for about 6 hours continuously one night, and I had no over heating problems with the CPU. Could that message just be a flaw, or should I really worry about it?
Hi,
Im currently running an Intel Core2Duo@2.00GHz, 3GB DDR2 RAM, 1 60GB SATA HDD @ 7200rpm and a 160GB SATA HDD@7200 rpm. Other than that I have 2 DVD/RW drives a floppy drive (it came with the case) and a PCI wireless network card. To run all of this is my 400w PSU powerful enough? Should I invest in a new one.
Just to add to the load I have just oredeed an ASUS 8800GT 512MB DDR3 graphics card. I will soon be ordering (hopefully) another 500GB HDD, but may well take out the 60GB, and give unbuntu a freash install along with windows (windows having the bigger 500GB HDD).
Now do I need more juice? If so can someone please advice one that isn’t too expensive?
Thanks!
Found this just a bit ago, application virtualization. Xenocode Browser Sandbox if you are not wanting to setup a full virtualized environment or cannot due to insufficient hardware support…
Im looking to add a server to the home office. The box will be hopefully running Linux and I intend to use it, to learn linux as well as run a web server for all my client sites (testing and development).
Im also going to put in a spare large hard drive and use it as storage for all my photos, documents etc I might try running Alfresco too if I get carried away
I have two laptops which are used around the house so it will be connectable through the home network. I may also want to stream TV, films etc to the TV downstairs at some point.
Although this wont be on all the time, just when im at home. I would like something that is as green as possible, I have looked at Small form-factor PCs but they all seem to be very small in storage and memory.
I was thinking of getting a dell server, but the running costs are quite high.
Has anyone else gone through this and happy with what they have? I suppose im looking for a small desktop, built with laptop parts, and dual core proc, as I believe these are lower power.
Any suggestions?
Hi guys, after i reformat my pc from a wicked virus, my usb started not working as it use too. both the usb ports on the front and abck oy my cpu does the same. if i try to stick my flash disk, or if i connect my psp, the pc just restarts itself very similar to pushing the reset button!
ive heard that it might be the usb getting short, and they tell me to check the connection to the motherboard, but i double check and the wires look fine.
any advise? i cant make full use of my pc if i cant use the usb!
Wired wrote some info about the upcoming IE8 release as well as some future info that Microsoft spoke of:
Quote:
About web standards:
* The target for CSS support in IE8 is full and complete support for CSS2.1.
* The only CSS3 module in IE8 is writing-mode (for vertical text support). IE has supported this since version 5.x, so it will continue to do so.
* IE8 will not support CSS’ border-radius, which is often used to make rounded corners without images. Microsoft’s Chris Wilson confirms that border-radius support is “high on the wish list,” though, and should make its way into the next release after IE8.
* There is no official roadmap for IE9, but native SVG support is likely.
* A new JavaScript engine is likely down the road, too. A user asked: “Almost all others browsers are now considering JavaScript compilation. Safari introduced SquirrelFish and last week SquirrelFish extreme in reaction to V8. Mozilla has also started working on ScreamingMonkey. Will IE9 have a new JavaScript engine?” The response: “We’re certainly focusing heavily on improving Javascript, in IE8 and beyond. I’d expect to see great things here in the future.”
RC1 does not show any of the above and Microsoft only claims full support for CSS2.1 is a “target”. It’s pitiful about the SVG and border-radius support. Javascript is somewhat improved in IE8 but the DOM support and CSS3 is still pitiful.
My very limited tests with HTML5 showed IE8 beta2 doesn’t show up to play. We can only look forward to IE9 making a few more baby steps or hope IEs demise altogether. It should be noted that ALL of the above has been implemented in ALL the other browsers for several years now (I didn’t look through the writing-mode though).
