blending transparent gif to background?

Hello,
I am creating buttons in Photoshop. I am creating the background as a gradient and using that as a background image. I’m going to use that buttons even times as the background image. Then I want to export the title of the buttons as a transparent gif and put them on top of each buttons. How do I export that transparent gif to make it blend to the background image? In other words, what export functions do I choose?
Thanks

"Bring to Front" not working in Illustrator CS3 (PC)

I’m working with an EPS file created by someone else. I’m trying to bring an object to the front in an effort to change the background color and it will not work. The object I want in the background (basically a dark rectangle) is on a layer that is below the object I want showing up on top. So layering is not the issue. I’m not sure if the object (a group of paths) is locked somehow or what – I can edit it just fine though. I’m not sure what I need to check.

IE degrading text graphics

Well I have been working on a template purchased by a client and have a graphic with text in it. I used Arial as the font since it is simple and clean but have noticed that IE7 makes it look bad while in Firefox it looks clean and sharp. Is there any way to clean it up more for IE? I did notice that the Sitepoint logo has the same look – not so good in IE7 but nice and clean in Firefox. Not sure what Firefox is doing in the background to make text images so nice compared to IE but maybe MS needs to look behind the scenes of Firefox and follow their standards.

Need a tool / photoshop plugin to draw screen object dimensions

Hi,
I think most of the designers would have faced this situation of documenting the design and explaining the alignment, formatting and layout of the screen for documentation/testing(UI Validation)/HTMLization purposes.

What I’m looking out for is if there’s a tool which does this once the final prototype is ready? Even a photoshop plugin would do?

Example:

I’m currently doing the hard way by drawing the arrows and markers & adding the width/height…. and i’m sure there must be an easy way out….please let me know.

Thanks,
Amy

Tango Icons

Hi there,

Could someone point me to a link or anywhere that might jumpstart me in my Tango Icon hunt. I have visited this http://tango.freedesktop.org/Tango_Icon_Library and this http://art.gnome.org/themes/icon/?page=2 but those lack some icons. I don’t know where I should start looking.

Maybe someone already has the complete PNG tango set. It’d be appreciated if you could share it with me.

I especially need it for a web desktop I am making. I really need a comprehensive set of tango icons.

Thank you in advance

Illustrator CS:3 and Patterns…

I have a rectangle shape that I need to apply a pattern to. There’s nothing special about this shape at all and yet, I can’t seem to even come close to understanding why it’s so simple to apply a color from the swatches window but not a pattern.

Anyone know what I’m doing wrong here?

.svg file compatibility

I have a basic .svg logo design I created in InkScape, but I need some more advanced work done to replace the white areas with a brushed stainless steel finish look;

Do any advanced design programs like PhotoShop or Illustrator, etc., have the capacity to read and save .svg files ?

Or, given a brushed stainless steel finish look, would the filetype need to be pixel-based once completed?

Many thanks
