Online Marketplace – which Open Source solution to use as a base?

Hi Everyone,

right now I am looking at setting up a marketplace type of service. It is not an auctioning platform, but user interaction is somewhat similar. I need users to be able to sign up, offer a product on the marketplace. With the same sign up the user should also be able to buy the products, other user have added to the marketplace.

I have looked at several eshop solutions, but all the ones I found, assume that there is only a single shop owner who is adding products. I have not found a solutions that has the ability for users to add products themselves.

Is there a readymade solution, that would support this kind of marketplace model? Would it be possible/How difficult would it be to adapt one of the existing eshop solution to add an interface for users to add products to the shop and connect link it to them in the database?

I am really looking forward to some feedback, thanks a lot in advance!

1st complex Ecommerce site

I have done a simple Ecommerce site in the past. It was for a book that could either be digitally downloaded or a hard copy purchased and I used PayPal for the hard copy and payloadz.com for the eBook copy. Nice and simple. Now I have a client that sells custom baseball bats. He has 4 different models that come in various sizes and colors. I have looked at a lot of Ecommerce shopping carts that all seem way to complicated to learn quickly. I would need it to be easy to add to the existing site http://foxdenwebsolutions.com/haagbatcompany/index.html. I think some sort of dropdown choices would be the best bet for choosing the model, size, and color. Then this information would feed over to PayPal (because that is what the client wants to use). That is not a problem as I can easily set that up. Can this be done with a simple form? Do I really need a database? I do not know PHP very well so I am not sure that this is the proper solution to my problem. I am really not sure where to begin and what would be the best way to handle this. Could someone give me some starting point so that I can start on the shopping cart? Thanks.

Want to design in 3D

I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I currently illustrate in Xara Xtreme Pro. I often need to illustrate people in various poses, doing different things. Unfortunately, I need to do a search for photos that may be close. Then I try to draw from these. The problem is, that I am at the mercy of what I can find…not necessarily what I need. These are my needs:

1. Create poseable figures, male and female, young and old.
2. Costumes or clothes? Work, athletic uniforms, professional (like suits)
3. Place them into a scenes like an office or hammering a nail.
4. Props like holding a phone or a tool.
5. Then be able to bring them into Xara and or Photoshop to finish. However, I’m impressed with some of the abilities of the 3D modeling software capabilities.

Not sure where to start. I’ve played with DAZ 3D and Poser. I struggled with both. I’m assuming either would be the best choice. Beyond struggling with posing, I can’t find the clothes, props or scenes I need. If I need to make them myself, what do I need.

Monitor Recommendations? (MacBook Pro)

I’m saving towards a new MacBook Pro with a 13″ monitor; I hope to make my purchase sometime this fall, after Apple’s Snow Leopard OS is released.

I’d also like to buy a large external monitor for home use. Apple sells a 24″ monitor for about $750 and a 30″ monitor for twice as much. However, I assume I could get something comparable from another manufacturer at a much better price.

I just wondered if anyone could offer some advice on buying an external monitor. Are there some particular brand names I should be aware of that are of exceptional quality or especially inexpensive? Do Apple monitors have some special feature I won’t get in another model (or vice versa)?

How much would you recommend spending for a monitor (probably somewhere between 24″ and 30″)?

Thanks for any tips.

google earth plugin

Hi,

After testing my kml file on my website, I was shocked to see it not
work on other browsers and other machines.

I tired to figure out why my map is 2d instead of 3d!

Is it simply because the user needs google earth installed on their
computer?

Anyway around this?

Am pretty sure that I haven’t created my kml right this is supported by that fact that my placemarks do not appear on it.

I am confused with google’s guide to create kml files.

I have designed the webpage around a 3d model and it looks silly with
a 2d model.

Thanks

VoIP Router with USB

Hi

I was wondering if anyone knew of a router that has VoIP so I can plug in regular phone line into it. Also, I was wondering if there is a model that also has a USB on it for shared devices such as Hard Drive or Printer?

I am new to VoIP so I dont want to get the wrong one.

Thanks,
Chris

Samsung "iMac"

Hi all – I have a client that has apparently seen a PC that he’d like to get hold of, but my googling skills are clearly failing me as I can’t seem to find the model anywhere.

By the sounds of things, it has the form factor of an iMac – PC built into screen – looking very sleek n sexy.

Anyone know which model I’m talking about?

TIA,

H

No Sound after Reformat

Lads & Ladies,

My PC has had uncurable trojans etc for about a year and i finally got around to doing a reformat. Everything worked out fine apart from the fact i now have no sound!

The thing is, my PC isnt detecting my sound card so im not sure which drivers to get. After having a look online about my PC model (Packard Bell iMedia M848) i got a rough idea and downloaded some but they had no effect whatsoever. (Under sound components in System Information it says i have the Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device but im sure that’s not correct)

Has anyone else had this problem or know how to recover the sound? i’ve searched everwhere through tons of forums but cant find anything that works. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Need more oomph from my wireless ADSL router

I’ve got a Netgear ADSL wireless modem router model DG834G v3. Works fine and is a good reliable tool. However, I have moved house and my home office is on the outer reach of the wireless zone. So, what to do. Would you recommend getting a more powerful wireless router, or can I get some sort of range extender?
